Outreach Event at Sevalaya, Chennai, India: 

 

A representative from our team, Tarun, volunteered at an NGO for underprivileged children near the city of Chennai in South India. Knowing the main operator of the home, he had leapt at the opportunity to not only help unfortunate children but at the same time spread further knowledge about STEM and FIRST Robotics.

Initially, he had spent a full day learning the dynamics of the NGO. He spent long hours meeting several underprivileged children, engaging in enlightening discussions about their lives, desires, and aspirations. Not only did he help them build a love for robotics, he gave them access to the world of robotics through basic classes in English as well as mathematics. He explained our initiative, much to their interest, and the intricacies of FRC and similar robotics competitions.

 

Another great help was to the Indian teachers of these children; he helped them navigate computers and become better teachers themselves, guiding an entire community through to a better future. His toil in the monsoon rains and daytime scorch was not in vain - he had given hope, a future in STEM, to hundreds of young people.
